I've been in hospital for the past 2.5 months for a medication review. Gone is the nortryptiline and lurasidone, in comes the clozapine. Clozapine is towted as a drug of "last resort" for treatment for those who are otherwise resistent.
Clozapine has a bit of a reputation for serious side effects like reducing white blood cells, damage to the heart muscle, etc. The minor side effects like excessive drooling are an annoying, but livable through the use of the travel sickness pill, KWELLS, to help dry the mouth.
One of the old medications I am still taking (at a reduced dosage), lithium carbonate, is on it's last legs with a goal to discontinue it completely in the new year.
On a side note, I have been officially diagnosed as Psychoaffective Disorder.
